Primera Division: UD Las Palmas – Real Madrid

On Sunday, La Liga fans can enjoy four interesting matches including the battle between Las Palmas and Real Madrid. After saying goodbye to their title hopes, Real are ahead of a challenging task to claim the runners-up spot they are currently four points adrift of. With just ten league rounds left until the end of the season, Los Blancos need to gain as many wins as they can but producing a victory at their next rivals might not be easy at all. Las Palmas have won their last three matches on their quest for the league survival and they are sure to put up a good fight against Real as well. Starting at 8:30 PM (CET), the game UD Las Palmas – Real Madrid will be played at Estadio Gran Canaria.

UD Las Palmas

As recently as about a few weeks ago, the Canary novices were rooted deep in the relegation zone and their chances of staying in Primera Division were low. Now, some four rounds later, their situation has changed greatly. Setien´s men have produced a stunning series of three consecutive wins, improving their position in the table significantly. In the 25th round, Los Amarillos gave a courageous performance in a duel against the leaders Barcelona and although they lost the game (1:2), they managed to be worthy opponents for the Catalan giants. In their next match, Las Palmas earned an important win at Eibar (1:0), followed by a glorious home triumph over Getafe (4:0). When the Canary side clinched another impressive victory at fourth-placed Villarreal, there were no doubts Las Palmas were determined to stay in La Liga for the next season. Encouraged by their recent achievements, they are now looking to produce another great result in the Sunday clash against Real Madrid.

Real Madrid

Real bounced back from the frustrating home defeat they suffered in the Madrid derby at the end of February, having been on a winning run since then. Los Blancos won their last three matches and they are ready to compete for the runners-up spot, currently occupied by their rivals Atlético. After the derby failure, Real clinched a 3:1 win at Levante and they gave one of their best performances yet in the next home game against Celta Vigo, trashing their hopeless opponents 7:1. Real´s biggest star Ronaldo scored four goals in the fixture, becoming the current top scorer of the league with an incredible tally of 27 goals. Zidane´s men put in another great display in their Champions League duel against Roma. They beat the Italians 2:0, securing their spot in the last eight. But being one of the most ambitious sides in the world, Real want to succeed in all competitions and they will certainly approach their upcoming league games with the same importance and determination to win as their Champions League matches.

Summary

The Canary island of Gran Canaria will host one of the most interesting and attractive fixtures of this La Liga round as it will feature a battle between Las Palmas and Real Madrid on Sunday. Having won their last three league duels, the home side are heading into the battle against Real in buoyant spirits. However, Madrid also claimed three consecutive victories and they will surely go all-out to extend this run in the upcoming match. To find out whose winning streak will come to an end in this game, we will have to wait until Sunday night.

Primera Division: Villarreal CF - FC Barcelona

The most stand-out duel of La Liga´s 30th round will take in place Villarreal where the home side will take on the leaders Barcelona. Villarreal have been doing very well this season, currently placed fourth but the teams behind them are also looking to claim the last Champions League spot, which gets the Yellow submarine under pressure to gain as many points as they can in the remaining games. Nevertheless, claiming any points against Barcelona will be extremely hard as the Catalans have been absolutely flawless in their last games. Starting at 4 PM (CET), the La Liga clash Villarreal CF vs. FC Barcelona will be played at El Madrigal Stadium in Villarreal.

Villarreal CF

Usually an average La Liga team, Villarreal have been enjoying one of their greatest seasons this year. In the 29 matches, Marcelino´s outfit obtained 53 points, currently sitting in the fourth place with a highly positive score of 15 wins, 8 draws and 6 defeats. However, as third-placed Real Madrid are already huge 10 points ahead of them, Villarreal will focus on defending their current position rather than chasing the top three. Until recently, the Yellow submarine boasted an impressive unbeaten run but the series came to an end two weeks ago after they unexpectedly lost to Las Palmas (0:1). In the last round, Villarreal suffered another disappointing loss when they got beaten by Sevilla (2:4) who are their biggest rivals in contention for the fourth spot. Therefore, the team are in need of producing good results in their upcoming games but stealing any points from Barcelona would be a big surprise.

FC Barcelona

Barcelona have been in a truly fabulous form lately, flourishing in all competitions. In fact, Enrique´s men have been unbeaten in last 38 matches, which is a remarkable accomplishment even by this great side´s standards. In their last league match, Barca totally destroyed Getafe, dispatching them 6:0 but they were admirably productive in their previous games as well – beating Eibar 4:0, Vallecano 5:1 and Celta Vigo 6:1. On Wednesday, the reigning Spanish champions were up for a Champions League round of 16 rematch against Arsenal whom they knocked out with ease (5:1 on aggregate). Obviously, Barcelona resemble a well-oiled winning machine with no intention to stop their terrific run. In their next league fixture, the Catalans will travel to Villarreal but the history suggests this opponent can hardly be a real match for them. Barca beat Villarreal in last seven head-to-head matches and they are going to even improve this record on Sunday.

Summary

After the recent eight-game unbeaten streak, Villarreal lost both of their last league duels, complicating their situation in the fourth-spot race. With just a few rounds left until the end of the season, they cannot afford to waste any more points. Unfortunately for them, the upcoming duel can hardly bring them a satisfactory result as it is Barcelona, one of the most in-forms teams in the world right now, who they will host. Can Villarreal beat the odds and produce a good outcome against the Catalan giants? Or will Barcelona claim yet another trashing victory in the duel? We will know by Sunday night.

Primera Division: FC Barcelona – Sporting Gijon

With just four rounds until the end of this La Liga season, the title race is about to escalate. After Barcelona suffered three consecutive defeats recently, the competition for the trophy got tighter as the Catalans are now level on points with second placed Atlético and third-placed Real are justone point behind. However, Barca gave an astonishing display in their last league duel, destroying La Coruna 8:0, ending their frustrating four-game winless streak. In their next match against Gijon, a similarly one-sided outcome can be expected as Barcelona have remarkably great record against this side. Starting at 8:30 PM (CET), the La Liga bout FC Barcelona vs. Sporting Gijon will be played at the Camp Nou Stadium.

FC Barcelona

Prior to their last league duel against La Coruna, the Catalans were in unusually low spirits. Enrique´s men desperately needed to produce a good result after suffering defeats at the hands of Real Madrid, Sociedad and Valencia that eroded their lead at the top of the table, leaving them level on points with Atlético. Well aware of the seriousness of their situation, Messi and co. gave a stunning performance at La Coruna. However, it was not the Argentine sniper who became the hero of the game this time. Scoring four goals himself and setting up three more, Suárez gave a truly outstanding display in the match, leading his team all the way up to the ultimate trashing 8:0 win. Thanks to the glorious triumph, Barcelona managed to defend the leading spot but as both of their Madrid rivals won their games as well, they need to clinch another victory in their next duel against relegation-threatened Gijon.

Sporting Gijon

As Gijon are one of the newly-promoted teams in this La Liga´s season, their main goal was to avoid the drop and stabilize their squad. Currently placed 17th, Sporting are on the right track to achieve their goal but as the relegation zone is just two points below them, they are still likely to have their work cut out for them in the remaining matches. Gijon might have been even better off in the standings but they failed to produce good results in their recent games against other relegation-threatened sides as they lost to Granada (0:2) and were held to a goalless draw by Levante. On the other hand, Fernandéz´s men boast several impressive achievements including wins over Atlético Madrid and Sevilla. Obviously, Gijon give better performance against high profile sides, which suggests they might claim another valued result over Barcelona but the head-to-head matches statistics is merciless – Gijon have been beaten by the Catalans in eight out of the last nine matches.

Summary

Barcelona bounced back from a frustrating series of defeats and – encouraged by their latest thumping victory over La Coruna – they are ready to defend the last year´s title. As Barca got knocked out of the Champions League, they will surely focus on their domestic campaign where they still have the destiny of the trophy in their own hands. Nevertheless, both Atlético and Real showed they are determined to take advantage of any slip-up Barcelona might produce. With that said, Barca will probably have to win all of the remaining league duels to secure the title. Will they meet the expectations and claim another trashing victory over Gijon? We will know by Saturday night.
