Primera Division: Celta Vigo - FC Barcelona

One of the world´s most popular football leagues, La Liga continues with its seventh round this weekend, offering several highly interesting matches such as the one between Celta Vigo and FC Barcelona. The Celestes had a disastrous start to the season as they lost all of their first three matches but the team´s performance has greatly improved since then and Celta now make a formidable opponent. Yet, Barcelona will be interested in anything but a win in the upcoming fixture. Kicking off at 8:45 PM (CET), the Sunday La Liga clash between Celta Vigo and FC Barcelona will be played at the Estadio Balaidos in Vigo, Spain.

Celta Vigo

Celta enjoyed a successful season last year, finishing sixth in the domestic competition but they failed to keep up the form at the beginning of the new season as they lost to all Leganes (0:1), Real Madrid (1:2) and Atlético Madrid (0:4) in their first three league matches. In their next game, a Europa League group clash against Standard Liege, Vigo claimed a 1:1 draw in what later proved to be a start of an impressive unbeaten run. Since then, the Galician side have played four games, losing none of them. They drew with Osasuna (0:0) and defeated Gijon (2:1) and Espanyol (2:0) in La Liga while beating Panathinaikos Athens (2:0) in the Europa League. Celta are looking to extend their unbeaten series in their next game against FC Barcelona who will be clear favourites of the clash but Vigo actually boast a remarkable record against the Catalans giants as they have claimed two wins over Barca in their last four head-to-head encounters.

FC Barcelona

The reigning Spanish champions started their new campaign in style as they defeated Sevilla in the Supercup (2:0 and 3:0) and they were also impressive in their league openers against Real Betis (6:2) and Bilbao (1:0) but they failed to meet the expectations in the following duel in which they suffered a shocking home defeat (1:2) at the hands of newly-promoted Alavés, one of La Liga´s biggest outsiders. Nevertheless, the team have been more than convincing since then. Determined to atone for the shameful league failure, Barca delivered a stunning display in their next Champions League match against Celtic Glasgow who they hammered 7:0. In the following league match, Enrique´s men clinched another thumping win as they outplayed Leganés 5:1. After having been held to a 1:1 draw by Atlético in the Primera Division´s fifth round, the team outclassed Gijon (5:0) and picked an important win over Monchengladbach in the Champions League. Barcelona are currently without their brightest star Messi (injury) but they should still dominate the Sunday game against Vigo.

Summary

Estadio Balaidos in Vigo will be the venue of an interesting La Liga encounter between Celta Vigo and the defending champions FC Barcelona. Celta bounced back from a frustrating series of three straight defeats suffered at the beginning of the season and they have been in a great from lately. Barcelona, on the other hand, have been just as impressive as they are expected to be, having won as many as eight out of their first ten competitive games of the season. Will Barca stage another goal fest at Vigo? Or will the home side prove their form and steal points from the Catalan favourites? We will know by Sunday night.
