Champions League: AS Roma - FC Porto

Five rematches of the Champions League fourth qualifying round will be played on Tuesday, including a top-notch clash between AS Roma and FC Porto. As the first leg of this tie ended up in a 1:1 draw, both teams still have a good chance of progressing further. The first game at Estadio de Dragao offered an exciting football show full of thrilling moments and the Tuesday replay will surely be an entertaining match as well. Starting at 8:45 PM (CET), the game between AS Roma and FC Porto will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, Italy.

AS Roma

Roma were very busy during the summer transfer window, signing a number of new players including Salah from Chelsea, Shaarawy from AC Milan and Dzeko from Manchester City and after the first two competitive duels of the new season, the team´s fans can be satisfied with Roma´s performance. Despite being without their defenders Nura, Rudiger and Rui, the Italians started strongly in the first leg of the Champions League fourth qualifying round in Porto and deservedly took the lead after Porto´s defender Felipe scored an own goal. Roma continued to dominate the pitch but the game took an unexpected turn in the 41st minute after their debutant Vermaelen was shown the second yellow card. Unsurprisingly, the hosts had the upper hand in the second half and they managed to level in the 61st minute via Silva who converted a penalty. Yet, the final 1:1 draw is still a promising result for the Wolves ahead of the home rematch. Roma will head into the game encouraged by a thumping 4:0 win they claimed over Udinese in the first round of the new Serie A season.

FC Porto

Porto had already started their league season prior to the first leg of the Champions League fourth qualifying round. They claimed an emphatic 3:1 away win at Rio Ave in the first round of Primeira Liga but AS Roma, improved with a number of renowned summer signings, proved to be too hard for them to beat. Porto earned a 1:1 draw in the first game of the series that was certainly an intense examination for the team´s new coach Nuno Santos who replaced former manager Lopetegui during the summer break. In their following league against Estoril Praia, the Dragons clinched a home 1:0 win, staying at the top of the league table. Porto might not have as much quality in their squad as the Romans but they produced a stirring fight-back in the first leg and they will surely be just as determined and tenacious in the Tuesday rematch as well. Porto will need to score to keep their chances of qualifying alive but they will have to be very strong in defence too as the Roma´s forward are in a great shape.

Summary

The famous Olympic Stadium in Rome will see what promises to be a highly attractive football battle as two renowned sides AS Roma and FC Porto will cross their swords in the second leg of their Champions League fourth qualifying round tie. The home team will rely on their summer signings Salah and Dzeko who both gave a great display and scored in the Saturday league duel against Udinese. Porto, on the other hand, will probably base their game on collectiveness, well-organized defence and fast counters. To find out which of these two great teams will be the winner of this interesting tie, we will have to wait until Tuesday night.
