Premier League: Manchester United – Manchester City

There are no doubts about what Premier League match will draw most attention this weekend. There have been some big and memorable Manchester derbies over the past years but the one that will take place on Saturday has fans of both clubs as well as neutrals already excited. There are several reasons why the upcoming clash should be a fascinating display. First, both teams have been doing excellent in the new season, having won all of their games so far. Second, it will be a direct confrontation between two of the world´s best coaches Mourinho and Guardiola. The game could have also been a clash between the top two league scorers Ibrahimovic and Aguero but the City´s Argentine striker will not appear in the match due to suspension. Kicking off at 1:30 PM (CET), the hotly-anticipated Manchester derby will be played at the Old Trafford Stadium.

Manchester United

United have been living up to the pre-season expectations so far. The team have played four competitive games in the new season and they won them all. Mourinho´s men began their campaign with a Community Shield triumph over the reigning Premier league champions Leicester (2:1), followed by three league victories over Bournemouth (3:1), Southampton (2:0) and Hull City (1:0). United have been playing well as a team but it is their most renowned summer signings Ibrahimovic and Pogba who have been particularly standing out with their showing. On the other hand, the latest league win over Hull was unexpectedly tight and hard-earned as Rashford scored the winner as late as in the injury time. Needles to say that the highly in-form Citizens will make much stronger opponents so United need to give a top-notch performance to succeed in the Saturday clash.

Manchester City

Manchester City have already played five competitive matches so far and just like their rivals, they also claimed wins in all of them. The Citizens destroyed the Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest in the fourth Champions League qualifier (6:0 on aggregate) and they have been impressive in the Premier League too, beating all Sunderland (2:1), Stoke City (4:1) and West Ham (3:1). Led by acclaimed Spanish manager Guardiola, the team have been especially successful in the attacking department where the likes of Aguero, Nolito and Sterling have been shining. In fact, these three players have already managed to score as many as seven goals. Nevertheless, the second best scorer of the past season, Aguero, will be missed in the Saturday game due to suspension. Yet, considering their current form, the Citizens might have what it takes to win the game, even without the Argentine forward.

Summary

The famous Old Trafford Stadium will witness what promises to be a thrilling and highly attractive clash as it will feature yet another great Manchester derby on Saturday. Both of these implacable Manchester rivals significantly reinforced their teams during the summer transfer window and they are both looking to win the league this year. They are heading into the match on top of the league table with three wins from three games but at least one of them is sure to lose their first points. The recent head-to-head statistics is almost equal and the Saturday match is likely to be a tightly-contested affair as well. Which of these two great sides will have the upper hand in the prestigious game? We will know by Saturday afternoon.
