Friendly match: England - Portugal

Out of the six friendly matches scheduled for Thursday, the one between England and Portugal is by far the most attractive one. England have been in an outstanding form lately and they will have the home advantage, which is why they will be the favourites of the clash but Portugal have been in a great condition too and they boast a remarkably positive record against England as they beat the English in the last four head-to-head games. With that said, we are likely to be up for an exciting fixture and some top-notch football as these two sides will battle it out in the Thursday friendly game. Starting at 8:45 PM (CET), the clash between England and Portugal will be played at the iconic Wembley Stadium in London.

England

England have been getting into a formidable shape ahead of the EURO tournament. Together with qualifiers, Hodgson´s team have won eight out of their last ten matches, including some superb triumphs such as wins over the biggest candidates to win the upcoming tournament France (2:0) and Germany (3:2) in the recent friendly matches. By now, the team´s coach have already trimmed his 26-man squad to just 23 players as required by the official EURO 2016 nomination and the side is looking to play their final warm-up game before the tournament. After Turkey and Australia, England will face one of the Europe´s greatest teams as they will host Portugal in the Thursday match. Obviously, goal scoring has not been an issue for England as they have scored at least two goals in their last ten games but the team´s defence (particularly central defence) has not been that impressive. Considering the enormous quality of Portugal´s attacking line, the English defenders (still without Gary Cahill) will definitely have their work cut out for them in the match.

Portugal

Having made an appearance at each of the last five European Championships, the Portuguese had no problem qualifying for this year´s tournament as well. The team totally dominated the Group I that also featured Armenia, Albania, Serbia and Denmark. Santos´ men won seven out of the eight matches in the group, securing the top spot ahead of runners-up Albania and third-placed Denmark. In the preparation for the tournament, Seleccao have suffered two defeats at the hands of Russia (0:1) and Bulgaria (1:2) but in the remaining warm-up duels, they beat Luxembourg (2:0), Belgium (2:1) and Norway (3:0). In their last friendly game against Norway, the Portuguese were without two of their key players as Ronaldo and Pepe played the Champions League final for Real Madrid but even without them, the team gave a very good performance, claiming a comfortable win over the Norwegians. With both of these great players back with the team, Portugal will travel to England in their next game, looking to keep up the favourable record they have against the English.

Summary

The Wembley Stadium in London is about to witness one the highlights of the final stage of the preparations for the upcoming European championship as it will host a highly prestigious clash between England and Portugal. Both of these sides are hoping to clinch a medal at the tournament and they are both considered a dark horse of the tournament by some experts. England, led by Leicester´s attacking super star Jamie Vardy against Portugal with one of the greatest players of all time Ronaldo – this is undoubtedly a game not to miss out. Which of these two teams will be more satisfied with the result of the match? We will know by Thursday night.
