Champions League: Borussia Dortmund - Real Madrid

The second round of the Champions League group stage will begin on Tuesday with eight interesting games, including the Group F blockbuster Borussia Dortmund vs. Real Madrid. The Germans have been in an outstanding form so far, totally destroying most of their recent opponents. Real were expected to claim an easy win over Sporting Lisbon in their Champions League opener but in fact, the team were just minutes away from a devastating loss as it was only thanks to Ronaldo´s and Morata´s super-late goals that Madrid eventually clinched a 2:1 win in the fixture. Obviously, Real will need a much better performance against Dortmund who had no troubles destroying Legia Warsaw 6:0 in their opener. Kicking off at 8:45 PM (CET), the Champions League battle between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid will be played at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund did not have a good start to the season as they lost to their biggest rivals Bayern Munich in the German Supercup (0:2) but since then, they have won all of their matches except for one Bundesliga game. Borussia have been particularly impressive in the attacking department – they destroyed Legia Warsaw 6:0 in their Champions League group opener, outclassed Darmstadt with the same results (6:0) in the league, thumped strong Wolfsburg (5:1) just a few days later and claimed an easy 3:1 win over Freiburg in their last match. In fact, Dortmund scored as many as 20 goals in their past four games, boasting an incredible average of five goals scored per match. Dortmund have been heavily relying on their key striker Aubamayang who has been in a stunning shape lately but unfortunately for the team, he might be missed in the Tuesday clash against Real as he has been struggling with an unspecified injury.

Real Madrid

Real kicked off the new season in style as he won all of their first six matches but the team´ form has been less impressive in the past weeks. It started in the Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon who were supposed to be an easy prey for the Madrid giants but instead, Real were very close to what would be a frustrating defeat. But Los Blancos have Ronaldo who saved the day with a late, free kick equaliser and Morato completed the turnover with a last-minute winner. Nevertheless, after a relatively comfortable 2:0 win over Espanyol in La Liga, Real produced another unconvincing performance in league matches against Villarreal and Las Palmas both of whom actually held Zidane´s squad to a draw. Obviously, Real are not in their best form ahead of the crucial Tuesday encounter with Dortmund and they will not be even at their full strength in the match as they will probably be without their defensive mainstays Marcelo and Casemiro who are out with injuries.

Summary

The Signal Iduna Park Stadium in Dortmund will host what promises to be a fascinating football show as the home side will meet the defending champions Real Madrid in the Champions League group stage. One of the best teams in the world, Real have more quality in their squad but Dortmund have been in a tremendous form lately and they can count on a massive support of their loyal fans, which slightly favours the home team. To find out which of these two great sides will eventually have the upper hand in this highly attractive fixture, we will have to wait until Tuesday night.
