Champions League: Juventus Torino – Sevilla FC

On Wednesday, the Champions League will also offer several top-notch clashes that are sure to entertain us. One of them will certainly be the match between the Italian champions Juventus Torino and strong Spanish side Sevilla FC. These two teams met each other in the same stage of the competition last year when they both produced home wins (Juventus won the first game 2:0 and Sevilla triumphed 1:0 in the rematch). Yet, the Spaniards failed to progress from the group which is what they want to avoid this year. Starting at 8:45 PM (CET), the duel between Juventus and Sevilla will be played at the Juventus Stadium in Torino, Italy.

Juventus Torino

Obviously, Juventus have been paying extra attention to avoid the same mistake they did last year when they totally messed up the first matches of the season as they have been flawless in their new league campaign so far. Torino have played three Serie A games and they won them all. In the opener, Juventus defeated strong Fiorentina (2:1). Then, they beat another of their traditional rivals Lazio Roma (1:0) and they kept on winning in the third round too as they claimed an easy 3:1 victory over Sassuolo. The Old Lady have been playing well as a team but there is one player who has been particularly standing out – the biggest summer signing Gonzalo Higuain. Last year, the Argentine sniper netted an incredible 36 goals for Napoli and he seems to keep his fabulous form in Juventus too as he has already scored three goals in three matches. Torino have also proved they can cope with the absence of Paul Pogba and be a major threat for any opponent.

Sevilla FC

Sevilla experienced a good season last year. In the domestic competition, they finished seventh and they produced another glorious triumph in the Europa League where they earned their third consecutive title. Yet, despite all these impressive achievements, Rojiblancos were very busy during the summer transfer window. They lost three of their mainstays - Banega (Inter Milan), Krychowiak (PSG) and Gameiro (Atlético Madrid) but they signed as many as 8 new players including Kranevitter and Vietto from Atlético Madrid and Correa from Sampdoria. Moreover, the former team´s coach Emery was replaced with Jorge Sampaoli. With so many changes to the squad, Sevilla´s performance greatly depends on how the new players gel together and play as a team. They lost all of their Supercup matches that took place prior to the main season but the team seem to gradually gain the momentum as their performance has improved greatly over the past weeks. Let us see if they can prove their quality in the Wednesday match against Juventus.

Summary

Last year, Juventus had to exit the Champions League as early as in the first play-off round where they succumbed to Bayern Munich in one of the most spectacular round of 16 ties of the past years so they have extra motivation to make a success this time. Sevilla might not have as star-studded squad as Juve but they are famous for being able to give a truly outstanding performance in an important and prestigious game. Will they live up to this reputation in the upcoming match? Or will the home side meet the role of the favourite of the game? We will know by Wednesday night.
